From packaging waste to heating energy: HALDRUP closes the loop
HALDRUP has turned an everyday logistics challenge into a sustainability success story. Wooden pallets and packaging materials arriving with supplier deliveries now feed directly into the heating system at the Ilshofen headquarters, instead of being disposed of.
A high-efficiency energy system converts incoming wooden packaging into wood chips at up to 80 pallets per hour, automatically separating any metal parts in the process. The chips cover the full heat demand across 16,000 m² of production and office space.
The numbers speak for themselves: the system replaces around 170,000 litres of heating oil per year, avoiding over 450,000 kg of CO₂.
Wood is a renewable resource. The carbon released during combustion is the same carbon the tree absorbed while growing. No new emissions enter the atmosphere. The cycle is complete, and the decision behind it is straightforward: sustainability comes from doing things right, not from compensating elsewhere.

HALDRUP has completed a major investment at its headquarters in Ilshofen, Germany: a new 3,000 m² logistics hall that doubles the available production capacity on site. The facility brings parts supply, intralogistics, and dispatch together in a single, seamlessly integrated material flow. Every step now runs under one roof, eliminating unnecessary transport and creating a production environment designed for efficiency, precision, and growth. Shorter internal routes mean fewer emissions. Operating from a single location means more control over quality at every stage.

HALDRUP generates its own electricity – because energy independence is a prerequisite for reliable delivery.
The roof areas at HALDRUP’s Ilshofen headquarters are equipped with a photovoltaic system rated at 500 kWp. On annual average, it covers 100% of on-site electricity needs.
Surplus energy is stored in battery systems and drawn on when solar generation is low, keeping supply consistent around the clock. Storage capacity is being expanded further. Energy independence is a prerequisite for reliable delivery. That is how HALDRUP creates certainty.
Combined with an on-site wood chip heating system that converts incoming packaging waste into energy, two of HALDRUP’s main energy inputs, electricity and heat, are now largely produced on site from renewable sources.
“The decision was straightforward: out of fossil fuels, out of dependence on energy markets.”
